| July 09 | We spent one night at this lovely B&B. The host, Andrew, and his wife were very lovely people. Most hospitable. The house was lovely. Our room very comfortable and large with a bathroom en suite. The view from our window was of the stone circle. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a place to stay in Avebury. Oh, and the breakfast was top-notch. Andrew cooked your hot breakfast to order. Otherwise, plenty of cereal and toast with homemade preserves. And a fruit cup! The nicest place we stayed on our holiday. |
| May 09 | Avebury is a tranquil and magical place. It attracts all sorts of people for many reasons. If you want to experience this idyll to its fullest and live for a while among the ancient stones...there is no better place than The Lodge Avebury. Andrew and his wife are great hosts, friendly and knowledgeable..and a great veggie breakfast to be had, looking out at the Avebury stones from your breakfast table! |
| Mar 09 | Andrew is a memory man! He actually remembered what we did for a living! He'd lost weight but none of his humor and had the rooms on a 'special' rate. When I arrived the TV cameras were there from the BBC and some guy I saw doing some Brit show on PBS was getting upstaged by Andrew's knowledge of antiques! Give the guy his own show! You don't get all this at a Best Western! |
| Jan 09 | I can not rate this place highly enough! Initially we planned to stay in Salisbury since the purpose of the visit was Stonehenge. However we were told by several people on Tripavdisor forum that Avebury is much less touristy and more interesting. I am really glad we have followed the advice and book The Lodge in Avebury. The lodge has two rooms, both very nicely decorated. Many furniture pieces are antique. Bed is very comfortable and when you open your eyes in the morning the first thing you see right from your bed is stone circle! Andrew is fantastic host and has witty sense of humor. Breakfast is made by Andrew and his lovely wife just for you and its very good quality! One of breakfast tables is just by the window and you do have the view over the circle while having the breakfast! Next to Lodge is pub Red Lion and opposite this pub is very nice small antique shop run by the lovely couple. We have bought very some great things at great price. Two miles from The Lodge is great pub “Waggon and Horses” which is featured in one of Dikkens novels. Ask Andrew for directions. Despite the fact the we were there in January - not the most warm month of the year – we enjoy our stay immensely and would definitely go back there! |
| July 08 | This is such a sweet little place! My hubby to be and I just got engaged there and we love Avebury almost as much as we do each other! Andrew, the owner of the B&B, is the nicest guy and I adored the shabby-chic European style rooms and the views are yummy! Clean and individual, great food (although it is a vegetarian place) and a host who gave us a really nice bottle of Champagne which Brad and I sat and drank whilst the Sun set over the stones. You would have to be dead not to love this place! |
| July 08 | This is THE place to stay in Avebury, as the archaeologist Sir John Lubbock decided when he was working on the stone circle and Silbury Hill in the 1870s. Today The Lodge has everything you could wish for: a stunning view over the stone circle from your room, genial and friendly hosts, Andrew Blackall and his wife, very comfortable beds, and a great breakfast. |
| May 08 | This place was really not what we expected. We'd stopped off in Avebury before to have a look at the stone circle (fantastic) but had not really got a sense of quite how small the village is. The Lodge B&B is located right inside the circle (as is most of the village) which means you get tremendous views from the bedroom windows and the breakfast room. In addition, you can also see Silbury Hill from the upstairs window. We stayed in the Pelmet Room which had a separate bathroom (down the hall, not en-suite) but this wasn't a problem. The room itself had a splendid grand feel to it with its antique furniture and is hung with paintings and tapestries. The bed was very comfy (we slept superbly both nights) and the room contained everything you would expect from a B&B of this standard - TV, tea and coffee etc. The bathroom was spacious and contained a separate bath and shower. Some more paintings in this room including a David Roberts print of the Gizah plateau which we loved as we spent our honeymoon in Egypt. An excellent bathroom to chill-out in. Breakfast was excellent both days. My wife is a vegan and was well looked after. I'm a carnivore who will happily eat vegetarian if the food is nice enough - and it was. I had a huge cooked breakfast which demanded a post-prandial walk around the stones. The Blackall family were lovely hosts - funny and warm - and we would definitely stay here again. In addition, Avebury is a superb National Trust site with interesting museums and some tremendous walks with loads to see. |
